Reading Is Fundamental

Beside shopping, eating and sleeping my fourth passion is reading. As a kid I loved the library. Suprisingly, Amazon delivers to me far more than Saks or William Sonoma. I engulf my passion by getting close to ten magazines a month and reading at least a book a week. Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster ,was my latest read. Written by Dana Thomas, it provides an investigative journalistic view of companies like Hermes, Chanel and Gucci. Deluxe tells of the family oriented beginnings of Prada and Vuitton and how they morphed into billion dollar conglomerates. Thomas also dedicates a chapter to counterfeiting, provides a true understanding of outlet shopping and above all, shows the less than thirty year shift luxury goods has taken in regards to markets and major clients. If you love reading about the dirty side of fashion or want to get an overview of the Global economy, I would go for this!

You can help too! Simply stop by your local Macy’s and give $3 to help provide free books to children near you and nationwide. For your support, Macy’s will give you a $10 off shopping pass to use on eligible purchases of $50 or more.* Macy’s will donate 100 percent of every $3 to RIF.
