How to Shop The Post Holiday Sales

50% off at Net-A-Porter, up to 70% off Saks- You get it the honorable post holiday sales and this year due to the sluggish sales during the holidays you may be able to make like a banshee and get some fab steals. However, shopping on sale is great but there are still a few rules to abide by to make the best purchase possible.

Don‘t buy it just because it’s on sale!
If your not engaged wtf would you buy a wedding gown just because its 80% off- Believe me there are people who do that! That maybe extreme but I am simply telling you that just because something is on sale, doesn’t mean it should be bought. Instead follow these tips when power shopping post holiday.

Would I have bought this at full price?
Simple, have you been eyeing this piece when it was at the retail price- if yes, try it on and go step two below. If not, leave it on the damn rack and keep it moving!

Does this item go with at least three things I already own?
If yes go to the next step. Maybe means it goes well with some accessories you have, think about it, as a matter of fact, put it on hold, call your mom or a friend and think about it.
If not, leave that bad boy right there.

Will I wear this within the next 6-12 months?
This is super easy; if you are drooling over a cocktail dress and you only attend one special occasion every two years- let it go. If you are a size 14 and it’s a 6 let it go. It will just end in the back of your closet and money down the drain.

Will my wardrobe stock go up or down with this purchase?
Silly purchases maybe fun for a life that doesn’t exist- FYI- I do wear my sequin items, thank you very much! Seriously, spoof pieces get great laughs, but if you aren’t bold enough to wear them- leave it to the bold people- 09 is the time to shine!

Now pull out that unlimited Metrocard and run to Bloomy’s to get all there great Cashmeres. Don’t forget Barney’s shoe floor and even better Club Monaco for some great staple pieces- let me know if that clutch is on sale!

I'm glad you posted this! I had been searching for a black wool coat for about three months. I saw coats that were "okay" on sale everywhere ranging from $80 - $200, but nothing wowed me. Today I decided to go to Nine West to see what was left of their "Overstock Sale" (at 19th & 5th). I found this black coat that look FAB on me. The price tag was $215 and I honestly would have paid that price. But since I'm on a budget, I was hesitant. I asked the sales clerk if it was on sale and she said yes. The coat cost $60!! My winter coat shopping is done!

So this girl comes into my store and I wish she could have read this post! I am ringing her up for her purchase and she is ranting and raving about how I MUST go to Saks because of their AMAZING sale. Her evidence of my necessity of going to Saks? This HIDEOUS Marc Jacobs bag that was 80% off or something. Poor little hood girl without a clue!!! The bag was horrible and there was a clear reason why it was still in the store. No kudos for her sporting a Marc Jacobs and not the lesser Marc collection, because the lime green and brown vinyl handbag was a HOT mess!!! Just because it was on sale, does not make it FAB!!
