Gift Ideas For The Young Fashionista

With style blogger Jane Aldridge of Sea of Shoes, and Tavi Gevinson hailed as the second coming of fashion, the youth are playing a major part in the fashion world. When I say youth, I mean the teen and tween set. You college age critters are not even being looked at by Vogue. How I wish the Internet were around when I was but a wee lad. I can just imagine blogging about my outfits, and instead of waiting until I hit college to kick off my career, I could have started it in the seventh grade or earlier.

One thing I do believe is fostering the interest and passions of the young. One of the best gifts I ever received, was a college level photography course while I was still in high school- Thanks MOM! Now we have Fashionista University. FU, for short is a super exciting seven week program slated to kick off at the top of 2010. Created by industry veterans, Gwen Wunderlich a public relations guru and fashion designers Kathlin Agiro and Courtney Zellmer. Fashionista University is part mentorship, part hands on education from industry insiders. With such courses as PR Prep 101 and Fashion Design 101, participants get a wider understanding of what goes into various careers in the Fashion Industry. Hold off on another wardrobe related gift for that teen, and think about how rewarding this would be. The gift of education last a lifetime. Seating is limited, so hurry up and register!

If you can't make it to Fashionista University, but still want to help a young fashionista spread their wings, pick up The Teen Vogue Handbook: An Insider's Guide to Careers In Fashion. With interviews by Marc Jacobs, and other notable names in fashion, this guide will hopefully make an impression on hopeful young fashion lovers. Books makes the best gifts!

BRRRRRRRR, Winter is finally here. Stay tuned next week, for tips on office party fashions, the season of sequins and other fun holiday tips. Stay warm!
