In The Trenches

Three Quarter Length Trench Looks Great

I have about 6 trench coats, that's actually coming off of the top of my head, I probably have more but I'm too lazy and guilty to do a true count. I have a short white pique  from Banana Republic, a faux Pucci print that gets me tons of compliments that I bought on a whim, a royal blue wool and silk stunner from Theory that I scored for a steal,  a long studded beige one from Tracey Reese, a black and white Mondrian print, a dark green Piazza Sempione one that I've had for close to ten years but may have worn less than ten times.   Last, is  old faithful  a light denim trench purchased for $4.99 from Old Navy while I was in college. I can dress it up as I've done in the past with a pair of gold sequin Mui Mui pumps or walk my dog during a monsoon, old faithful makes me look good all the time. Having  worn it  over five hundred times and cost me about five hundred pennies proves that a trench coat will always be the beginning and end to a great wardrobe.
A trench doesn't have to be in beige, this pop of cherry red still looks great.

I have a few rules for purchasing a trench male or female.  Think about your waist and your height. If you are vertically challenged, keep away from the long sweeping traditional length trenches and go for a shorter version.  The extra length is actually not that flattering.

A shorter version of a traditional trench coat for men

Rule number two, never ever cinch the belt, tie a loose knot and rule number three you don't have to spend tons of money on a great trench. As a matter of fact, I strongly encourage you shop for a great trench in an off price discount retailer like Marshall's, Daffy's, Loehmann's or Burlington Coat Factory. In all of my shopping days, I have very rarely seen a cheap looking trench.

The shorten version of the trench still adds a classic stylish touch

Fall is here, we can stretch this Indian Summer but for so long.  Get a head start on being fab for fall, and the Trench coat is your starter piece.
