Note: We are aware of the COVID-19 epidemic and to flatten
the curve and decrease the spread of the virus, we ask that you stay home and
only step out for essentials.
With social distancing becoming the new normal, making your
home a true space of serenity is a necessity. Besides quiet and natural light,
I’ve found essential oils to be the defining uplifting aspect of being in my
home. From bath and body, health and wellness, cleaning to diffusers, aromatherapy
can really help to elevate your immunity, center your aura making for better
mental and physical health. Here are my top four that will make #stayhome a
little easier on the mind, body, and spirit.
Lavender
Want to relax and get
the best possible sleep- lavender is the soothing anti-anxiety oil. A few drops on your pillow before bedtime increases
the release of melatonin, the hormone that regulates the sleep cycle. Add a few
drops into your detergent and softener to boost your laundry.
Sweet Orange
Have you ever peeled
an orange and then felt a rush of clarity? Well, sweet orange oil is known for
giving you a boost of alertness and sharpening your memory. A few drops in my
diffuser helps me stay more focused while working from home. I also add a drop
into my loofah and inhale for my morning shower and it is better than smelling
a cup of coffee.
Peppermint
This essential oil is one of the most valued and
multi-purposeful in my home. To subdue nausea I do a drop under my tongue, I massage
it to my temples to alleviate headaches. Placed on a cotton ball and massaged into a
scalp stimulates hair growth, relieves itchiness and fights off fungus. When
mopping my floors, I add a few drops which make for a great disinfectant.
Eucalyptus
Nature’s decongestant
is eucalyptus. If you have a stuffy nose, 5 drops in a bowl of steaming water
will open your sinuses. Mixed with a carrier oil like jojoba you make for a
muscle rub.
There are hundreds of essential oils but the ones listed,
are not only my favorite but, they are also the most popular and easiest to
find. While we mentioned earlier to practice social distancing, lavender, sweet orange, peppermint, and
eucalyptus could be purchased at local health food stores as well as pharmacies
both, considered essential businesses. Stay
healthy, stay safe and step out only for essentials.
